Colts offensive line most improved unit in NFL
By Ryan Stano
This might be a bold statement to make, but I am not shying away from it. The Colts offensive line is the most improved unit in the entire league.
The Colts offense has looked very good in spots the last few games. The biggest reason for that is the improved play of the offensive line. It has become the most improved unit on any team in the NFL. That isn’t an understatement either.
This line was terrible early in the year, and last year as well. But they have vastly improved the last three weeks or so. That coincides with the return on Anthony Castonzo at left tackle. Having him back has made a huge difference, mainly because Le’Raven Clark isn’t there.
But after struggling to protect Andrew Luck early on, the Colts haven’t allowed a sack in the last four games. That has allowed the passing game to carve up secondaries. The run game has also been positively affected. Marlon Mack has seen an increase in his stats recently.
Having movement up front in the trenches is the key to any good offense. The Colts understand that. They are even doing it without Matt Slauson, their starting right guard. They have the key guys back that they need for the line to be good.
You really can’t ask for the line to be playing any better. They are a top five offensive line in the league right now. If the Colts can get that sort of play from their defensive line too, this would be a really hard team to stop.
Hopefully the Colts can still improve on the offensive line as the year continues to go on. But the team should be very pleased with the progress this unit has made this season.
