Colts continue to get showered with awards
By Ryan Stano
The awards keep coming for the Indianapolis Colts. News came out that two rookies won the NFL Rookie of the month award.
This has been a special year for Colts rookies. Darius Leonard has already been recognized for his great play earlier in the season. Well, he got recognized again. He was named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Month. And Quenton Nelson was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month.
This is the first time in franchise history that the Colts have had two rookies win this award in the same month. It is also the first time in NFL history that a guard won the Offensive Rookie of the Month award. That is a very big deal.
We know how good Leonard has been this year. He has racked up more tackles than anyone in the entire league so far. He is always around the football, and makes plays constantly. But now everyone is learning just how good Nelson has been too.
He has done a great job blocking up front. He was a stabilizing force on the left side of the line while Anthony Castonzo was hurt. He also has done a great job in run blocking. Nelson is huge and opens up big holes for Marlon Mack to run through. His pass protection has been good as well.
If the Colts are able to develop rookies like this, they will be a very scary team down the line. They will win a lot of games with young talent on hand. But neither of these rookies are worried about that now. They are worried about winning more games this season.
