Colts vs. Eagles: A bettor’s guide
By Ryan Stano
We continue with our season long series of looking at Colts games through Vegas’ eyes. What should you do with your money if you bet on this game?
The Colts travel to Philly to play their third game of the season. The defending Super Bowl champs are always hard to play, but with them suffering some injuries they could be more vulnerable this week. But what does Vegas have to say about this game?
As of Thursday, the Eagles are a 6.5 point favorite. That is a large spread to cover in an NFL game. Carson Wentz is making his first start since tearing his ACL last season, and the Eagles have a bunch of injuries to skill players. I would take those points, there’s no way the Eagles cover.
The over/under on the game is 47.5. I tend to think that’s a little high. Even though both teams have high-powered offenses when at full capacity, neither team is. With Philly only having 4 active receivers and their starting running back questionable they might not score a ton.
Now the Colts have the capability to score a lot as well. But Philly has a staunch defensive line that could give the Colts some issues. Their line will put pressure on Andrew Luck and force him to make quick decisions. Based on that, I would take the under. This will be a low scoring affair.
It’s usually my rule to take the points whenever someone is favored by 7 or more. The Eagles are at 6.5. But based on their injury troubles and the rust that Wentz will have, you have to believe the Colts will be able to keep it close if they don’t win outright.
Check back here later for my full predictions on how this game will go. It is an interesting early matchup for sure.
