The Colts got their first win of the season today against the Redskins, winning 21-9. They played extremely well in an impressive win.

Defense wins championships. But they also win games in the regular season. That’s exactly what the Colts defense did today. They were stifling in a 21-9 victory in Washington. They also forced a key turnover late in the game to help seal up the victory.

The Colts have had issues stopping the run in the past, but there was no such issue today. They held Adrian Peterson to just 20 yards on 11 carries. They only allowed 65 yards total rushing. That was the key. Stopping the run was the thing the Colts had to do coming into this game.

Darius Leonard had an enormous game. He tallied 18 tackles, a sack, and had a forced fumble. The rookie continues to impress. He is already the best player on the Colts defense. The best thing for the team is that he will only get better as time goes on.

The offense played well too. The running game was pretty good, as the Colts ran for a total of 104 yards. Andrew Luck played well in stretches too. He threw two touchdown passes again. But he still is struggling with turnovers. He threw two picks, including a horrible one into double coverage.

This is a great win for the Colts to build upon. They needed to show that they could hold onto a halftime lead. They were up 14-3 at the end of the first half. Washington got it as close as 14-9. But the Colts led a drive to score another touchdown and put it out of reach.

Next. What the Colts need to do to win. dark

If the defense can play like this on a consistent basis, this team could be much better than anyone thought. A good Colts defense is a scary defense for the rest of the league.
