Last night was the last chance for players to make an impression to keep themselves on the roster. Who on the offense played themselves on to the team?

The Colts played their final preseason game last night and won 27-26 against the Bengals. It was the last chance for players to make a case to stay on the team. There were some players on offense who were on the bubble and needed a good game, so who did do just that?

A couple of wide receivers made strong cases last night. Zach Pascal and Daurice Fountain both played well and had some good catches. I didn’t have Fountain making the team, but last night definitely improved his case. He should get a good look now.

Branden Oliver had a good game too. He had some really good runs and showed some shiftiness in hitting the holes in front of him. He also had several catches and averaged 9.6 yards a catch. He has bounced around the league, and put some pressure on rookie Nyheim Hines to maybe take his roster spot.

Speaking of Hines, he didn’t get any offensive touches. In fact, the only time he was on the field was for kickoff returns and a few punt returns. Frank Reich clearly has shown he doesn’t trust the rookie as much as he once did, and that could put some concern into his mind come cut time.

Erik Swoope played his way onto the roster. I think he would have made it anyway, but he put no doubt after his performance. He had 3 catches last night, including the game winning touchdown. He has shown progress all throughout the preseason, and now should have a roster spot secured.

Cuts will happen this weekend, so it will be interesting to see who stays and who goes.
