The Colts recently released their first depth chart for the upcoming season, and there were some surprising names at starting positions.

The Colts released their first unofficial depth chart. Obviously they are subject to change and definitely will change before the season starts. But there were some interesting notes about who is listed as a starter as of now.

At wide receiver, it was expected that Ryan Grant would be the second wide receiver opposite of T.Y. Hilton. That is the case. Chester Rogers is the slot guy as well which was expected too. Deon Cain could eventually slide into that slot position as well.

Austin Howard is currently listed as the starting right tackle. This comes as a surprise considering Denzelle Good has been getting most of the starting reps during training camp. The rest of the offensive line was as expected, Castonzo, Kelly, Slauson, and Nelson.

The defense had several interesting names as starters. The defensive line sees Sheard, Woods, Autry, and Kemoko Turay. Turay is a rookie and has clearly shown the coaches something. The biggest surprise is Hassan Ridgeway listed as the third UT defensive tackle.

As of right now the linebackers are rookie Darius Leonard, Najee Goode, and Anthony Walker. Walker has been hurt most of camp, so it’s surprising to see him listed over Antonio Morrison. The rookie Leonard has been impressive all camp, so it’s no surprise to see him there.

The secondary shows Malik Hooker and Clayton Geathers at safety. There is no surprise there. But the corners are Pierre Desir and Kenny Moore. Moore is a surprise choice over Qunicy Wilson, who was last year’s second round pick.

This depth chart will definitely change in the weeks ahead, and it will be interesting to see who can hold onto starting spots and who gets passed over.
