The Colts have a lot of questions that need to be answered in the secondary. But as camp progresses, some of those answers are starting to be revealed.

The Colts have a lot of moving parts in their back seven. The starting linebackers still haven’t been decided, and neither have the starting corners. Safety seems to be the only position where there are solid starters in Malik Hooker and it seems like Matthias Farley.

Corner is the biggest question. With letting Rashaan Melvin go, the Colts don’t have a true number one corner. Based on camp observations, it looks like they are going with Quincy Wilson and Pierre Desir to start out as starters. Neither have a lot of starting experience.

Desir has the most experience, as he got a fair amount of playing time last year. Wilson on the other hand was hurt most of last year and wasn’t able to show his full potential after being a second round pick in 2017. But the Colts seem to be leaning on him as the new number one corner.

There is still a lot of time left in camp for things to change. Those two corners might not be the starters when the season opener rolls around against Cincinnati. But Wilson seems like he is more locked in as a starter than Desir.

Nate Hairston could make a run at that starting spot. He showed off some potential last season after he played during the myriad of injuries the team suffered in the secondary. The good news is that all of the players in the secondary have time to develop more in camp.

It will be interesting to see who emerges as a starter when the season rolls around. Preseason games will tell us a little more as well.
