Colts’ Frank Reich Looks Like He Knows What He’s Doing
By Ryan Stano
The first time head coach is new to running a training camp, but you wouldn’t know it by the way he is running everything for the Colts.
Colts coach Frank Reich is used to spending all of his time with the offense. That is where he has spent most of training camps since he was a rookie playing quarterback. But now he has to coach the whole team and has to make sure that everyone is doing well.
You wouldn’t know that this is Reich’s first rodeo as a head coach. He is running training camp seamlessly. He knows what he wants to accomplish and the drills that the team needs to do in order to get that goal accomplished.
Reich spend a good amount of Sunday evening talking to Andrew Luck. This was the team’s first padded practice and Reich clearly wanted to make sure that Luck was feeling well. He talked to him a lot during the scrimmage portion of practice.
Surely he was just finding out how Luck feels and different things that he sees in the offense. He is doing the right thing in making sure that Luck is comfortable in the offense. But Reich didn’t neglect the rest of the team, as he spent a good amount of time with the defense as well.
Reich wants to make sure that his team is ready for the rigors of the regular season, but also doesn’t want to overwork his guys. He is doing a good job with that balancing act. The team is responding to what he wants, and responding well.
Hopefully the team keeps responding well and they continue to grow under Reich’s tutelage. They are a young team being coached by a young staff, so everyone will continue to grow together.
