The Colts have the sixth pick in the draft, and the same names have been popping up for months on who they might take; Chubb, Barkley, and Nelson. But who are some dark horses that the Horseshoes might take?
It’s always tough to figure out what teams will do in the first round of the draft. So many teams trade picks and put up smokescreens to protect who they are going to take. For the Colts, there have been the same three names popping up most; Chubb, Barkley, and Nelson.
But NFL teams do months of scouting and do everything they possibly can to be prepared once their draft slot comes. They know what players they want, and sometimes it’s not who the fans want. So with that in mind, who are some players that are under the radar that the Colts could take in that sixth position?
One of those players could be Denzel Ward, cornerback out of Ohio State. Most projections have him being taken behind the Colts’ spot, but he is still a top ten talent. He has good ball skills, and many teams elected to throw away from him in college. The Colts still need cornerback help, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see them take Ward.
Another player they could take is wide receiver Calvin Ridley out of Alabama. He is widely regarded as the best receiver in the draft, but it would be a bit of a reach for Indy to take him. But they need help and depth in that position, and Ridley has reliable hands and is a big play threat. He could make an immediate impact.
One more name to keep an eye on is linebacker Roquan Smith. He is the top linebacker in the draft, and the Colts need desperate help at that position. He is less of a reach than Ridley and would give the team some much needed depth.

If Indianapolis doesn’t take one of the big names at the top, these are some of the players they could take instead. All of these players would add some value to the team as well.
