The Colts have been very quiet in the early hours of free agency. They have yet to sign anyone, but they are meeting with center Ryan Jensen.

The Colts have not signed anyone in free agency yet. A lot of top targets are already off the board. Most of the high-priced free agents have already signed with someone else. But they are finally starting to make some moves.

It seems as though the first thing the Colts are doing is meeting with free agent center Ryan Jensen. He is meeting with Indianapolis and Tampa Bay. This was reported earlier today by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter.

Jensen is a big center who previously played with the Baltimore Ravens. He started all 16 games this past season. He has started in 25 of the 35 games he has played in his career. Jensen has spent his entire career with the Ravens.

At first glance, this may seem odd for the Colts to do. They already have a starting center in young Ryan Kelly. But if you look deeper, it makes more sense. Kelly has had some injury issues in his young career. Once he was removed from the lineup, the Colts had little depth behind him.

If the Colts were to sign Jensen, they would be getting a veteran who has plenty of in game experience to be a backup for Kelly. He also has the skill to play other line positions as well. That would give the team some valuable versatility and depth that they desperately lacked this past season.

Colts fans should be patient with the team. Chris Ballard has preached rebuilding through the draft is more important than free agency. But they will still sign plenty of players this off-season.
