It Might be Chubb or Trade Down for the Colts

With recent events around the league, the Colts might not have a chance to draft a fan favorite: Saqon Barkley.

The Browns shook up the NFL yesterday by pulling off a series of trades. One of those trades is of concern to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are thought to want to draft either Saquon Barkley or Bradley Chubb. Now, because of one of the Browns trades, they only have a chance at Chubb.

With the Browns acquiring Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills for a third round pick, they seem to be signaling not wanting to draft a quarterback with the number one overall pick. Taylor has been a solid starter for the Bills, so he would seem to be the starter in Cleveland.

That means that the Browns won’t be looking at Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen or Josh Allen at that number one spot. It seems to indicate that they want to take Barkley with that pick instead. Barkley would be paired with Taylor and new wide receiver Jarvis Landry as well.

That would leave the Colts with looking at Bradley Chubb. The Giants are expected to draft one of the quarterbacks with the number two pick, so that would leave Chubb to be taken by the Colts. That might be what the team wants to do anyway, but at least now that would be their only choice.

But what happens if the Giants don’t take a quarterback and take Chubb instead? Chubb would pair along nicely with Jason Pierre-Paul. In that case, the Colts would almost certainly trade down. They would acquire more picks and possibly take an offensive lineman at a better value spot.

With everything that happened yesterday, the Colts now seem to be in a low stress position. They know who they want, and if he isn’t available the team will trade down.
