Anthony Hitchens Could Be Linked to the Colts in Free Agency
By Keenan Alban
The Colts have had terrible inside linebacker play for a while now and have no choice but to address it this offseason.
This upcoming draft class is pretty weak at inside linebacker and free agency might be the best place to get a new starter, or even two. One name to keep an eye on is Cowboys inside linebacker Anthony Hitchens.
The 25-year-old linebacker had his best season as a pro this year proving he is a solid starter in this league. His performance will earn him a solid contract and the Colts have plenty of money to spend this offseason.
Hitchens is still young and seems to be improving. This could be a good investment.
Another thing that could make Hitchens the right man for Indianapolis is the recent coaching news. If you haven’t heard yet, it was reported that Josh McDaniels is expected to become the Colts new head coach. Also in the news, McDaniels is expected to bring in Hitchens’ linebackers coach from Dallas, Matt Eberflus, as his defensive coordinator.
Anthony Hitchens obviously thinks very highly of the Colts’ new defensive coordinator, and a move to Indianapolis seems possible. The Colts should certainly take interest in Hitchens, and the opportunity for him to have continuity with his coach could lead to the interest being mutual.
This should be a fun offseason for Colts fans as the team will have a top three pick in the draft and plenty of money to spend in free agency.
I know free agency is still a ways away, but the Colts’ need for inside linebackers and the recent addition of Matt Eberflus to the coaching staff will make Anthony Hitchens an interesting name to follow.
