Colts 2017 Free Agent Grade Series: Barkevious Mingo

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - NOVEMBER 12: Ben Roethlisberger

We continue our fee agent series with yet another linebacker brought in by GM Chris Ballard.

Barkevious Mingo was another linebacker brought in to help shore up the pass rush. He has bounced around the league in his young tenure, with the Colts being his third team in five seasons. The Colts took a gamble on him because he has yet to hit his full potential.

But did the gamble pan out? Mingo was drafted out of LSU because he had good pass rush potential. However he didn’t have a sack the two seasons prior to coming to Indianapolis. This season was regarded as Mingo’s last chance in the NFL.

So how did he do? He only recorded two sacks all year. He did record a career high in tackles with 47, but he was not on the field every down to have a chance to record more. His run stopping abilities were not particularly great either. He really didn’t do too many things spectacularly in his first season with the Colts.

Final Grade:

He only signed a one year deal because the Colts so the front office had minimal risk in this deal. It will be interesting to see if they bring him back. Pass rushers are typically in high demand, and Mingo could come cheap.

The Colts could try to bring Mingo back on a cheap deal, but it might be best to cut ties with him because he still has not played up to his potential.
