According to reports, the Colts submitted requests to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks to become their next head coach.

The Colts fired head coach Chuck Pagano yesterday, and they have moved quickly to try to fill his vacancy. According to the Score, Indianapolis submitted requests to interview Josh McDaniels and Steve Wilks for the head coaching position.

Others are also expected to interview for the position, according to the report, including Kansas City  special teams coordinator Dave Toub and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Both have been names mentioned to get a potential head coaching position all year long.

The Colts are one of the more attractive job opportunities in the NFL right now. They have a franchise quarterback in Andrew Luck, young skill players, and a GM who is well respected around the league. A new coach could do well in this position.

I would expect the Colts to move relatively quickly in the hiring process. I would expect them to have their next head man by the end of the week. It will be interesting to see who they tab as their next head coach.

Chuck Pagano was let go after coaching the Colts for 6 seasons. He led the Colts to the AFC Championship in 2014, and had 3 playoff appearances. He was brought in as a defensive coach, but never really improved the Colts’ defense.

The next head coach will need to prepare for the upcoming draft with a top 3 draft pick. That pick will help lead the Colts into the future with their new coach, whoever it might end up being.
