According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, the Indianapolis Colts already have former New York Jets senior director of college scouting Rex Hogan ‘aboard’, while Seattle Seahawks senior personnel executive Ed Dodds is ‘expected soon’.
Both Hogan and Dodds will become co-VP’s of player personnel with the Colts–sharing responsibilities in the team’s scouting department.
Breer’s report adds clarity to a Monday report from Newsday Sports Kimberley A. Martin, in which both Hogan and Dodds were ‘expected to join’ the Colts:
New Colts general manager Chris Ballard is changing the franchise’s scouting department with ‘his guys’–having already dismissed former vice president of football operations Jimmy Raye III and director of college scouting T.J. McCreight following this year’s NFL Draft.
Hogan has been the Jets senior director of college scouting since January 2015–having previously served as the Chicago Bears national scout (2012-15) and a college scout (2003-15).
Ballard presumably already has a great familiarity and comfort zone with Hogan from his time serving as the Chicago Bears Director of Pro Scouting in 2012 and even earlier, as their Southwest Area Scout (2001-2011) prior to joining Kansas City’s front office.
Set to enter his 11th season with the Seahawks, Dodds was promoted to senior executive personnel director in 2015, as he previously served as a national scout. He’s highly regarded throughout league circles, and it’s been reported that he’s close with Ballard.
Obviously, Ballard is making changes of scouting personnel that he believes are in the best interests for the Colts long-term success going forward.
