On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that the team has signed Tennessee Titans offensive guard/center Brian Schwenke—following a Monday free agent visit.
The 6’3″, 318 pound Schwenke figures to bolster the team’s interior offensive line depth.
It was the second depth signing for the Colts on Monday, as the team also signed Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Margus Hunt, who also visited the team on Monday.
Initially selected by the Titans as a 4th round pick of the 2013 NFL Draft–having been a First-Team All-Pac 12 selection at Cal, Schwenke went on to appear in 41 career games (28 starts) for Tennessee. He has experience at both center and offensive guard during his 4-year career.
He’s coming off a season in which he appeared in all 16 games–starting in 3 games for the Titans (including at left guard).
With the Colts showing no intention of re-signing Jonotthan Harrison, who was the team’s primary backup offensive guard/center this past season, Schwenke figures to step in as his immediate replacement–while potentially pushing projected starter Joe Haeg for the starting right guard job.

New Colts general manager Chris Ballard has preached getting more competitive on his team’s 53-man roster, and today’s signings were all about adding depth.
Time will tell whether the two players added Monday will be significant upgrades to their predecessors, but Ballard is currently bringing in fresh faces for 2017.
