According to USA Today’s Tom Pelissero, the Indianapolis Colts and particularly new general manager Chris Ballard may have been looking to ‘poach’ safety Daniel Sorensen from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Instead, the Chiefs placed a 2nd-round tender on Sorensen, who’s a restricted free agent, which means either Kansas City will get the first right of refusal on any new deal or a suitor will be forced to surrender a self-explanatory 2nd round pick for Sorensen’s services:

Originally signed as a 2014 undrafted free agent by the Chiefs, Sorensen has developed into a reliable nickel safety, hybrid linebacker, and special teams contributor for Kansas City.

The 6’2″, 208 pound safety appeared in all 16 games (1 start) for the Chiefs this past season, recording 63 tackles, a sack, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions (including a touchdown return).

He’s appeared in 41 career games (1 start), finishing with 81 tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 8 passes defensed.

It essentially means that Sorensen will remain in Kansas City for at least another season, as it’s highly unlikely any team would risk a 2nd round pick to sign the promising safety.
