4. Tony Jefferson, Safety, Arizona Cardinals

Overshadowed by bigger names in the Arizona Cardinals secondary such as stars Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu, Tony Jefferson has quietly become one of the league’s better young safeties.

Originally signed by the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2013, the 5’11”, 212 pound safety is coming off another solid season, having recorded 96 tackles, 2.0 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 15 games (14 starts).

Per Pro Football Focus (subscription), Jefferson was their 5th best graded safety with a +88.6 grade overall, which would present an immediate starting upgrade over project safety T.J. Green in the back of the Colts secondary alongside fellow emerging young safety Clayton Geathers.

While Jefferson doesn’t come with the same big name recognition as superstar Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry–who’s also set to become a free agent, he could come with a much cheaper price tag and is also 3 years younger.

With a Jefferson and Geathers tandem anchoring the backend of their secondary, the Colts could have one of the top young safety duos in the league, and it would be a significant step in the right direction for improving Indianapolis’ once woeful defense.
