Colts Promote Deiontrez Mount from Practice Squad; Waive Lavar Edwards
The Indianapolis Colts announced late Thursday that the team has promoted outside linebacker Deiontrez Mount from the practice squad to their 53-man active roster and waived fellow outside linebacker Lavar Edwards in a corresponding roster move.
Originally a 6th round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL Draft, Mount appeared in 4 games for the Titans this past season, recording an interception and a pass defensed before being placed on season-ending injured reserve in mid-October due to a torn ACL.
The 6’5″, 249 pound outside linebacker appeared in 3 games with Tennessee during this year’s preseason, making 5 total tackles, but was released in late August as part of the team’s initial 75-man roster cuts.
He was subsequently signed to the Colts practice squad in mid-September.
During his senior season with the Louisville Cardinals in 2014, Mount recorded 36 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks as a full-time player in 13 games.
Regarding Edwards, he was claimed off waivers by the Colts from the Carolina Panthers in mid-October.
The 6’4″, 275 pound pass rusher appeared in 5 games for the Colts this season, recording 4 tackles and a sack–having had 7 tackles in 5 games for the Panthers previously in the year.
However, he was a healthy inactive in recent weeks on game day for the Colts, and it looks as though the team opted to give the younger Mount a look at this time instead at the position.
