The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday that the team has signed wide receiver Justin Berger and waived wide receivers Marcus Leak and Andrew Opoku.

The 6’2″, 204 pound Berger finished with 7 receptions for 90 receiving yards and a touchdown during his collegiate career with the Cowboys. While those numbers don’t necessarily jump out on paper, he was listed as a small school prospect of note by NFL.com’s Gil Brandt before this year’s NFL Draft because of his impressive physical measurables at his pro day:

"“Wide receiver Justin Berger — 6-1 3/8, 204 — ran the 40 in 4.45 and 4.49 seconds; he had an impressive 10-yard time of 1.49 seconds. He had a 37 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-4 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.14 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.87 seconds. Berger — who has 9 3/8-inch hands — threw the bar up 20 times on the bench press. Because of these outstanding pro day numbers, Berger might earn another look from an NFL team.”"

Meanwhile, Leak was signed as a priority undrafted rookie free agent following the draft, but has been unable to participate in any of the team’s preseason games because of a lingering quad injury.

It could simply be a numbers game, and the Colts are no longer able to wait out Leak’s injury, but similar to what we just saw with tight end Mike Miller, the team could potentially re-sign the young wideout once he’s fully recovered from his injury.

While it admittedly wasn’t real game-time action, Leak was one of the standouts early on in training camp:

Regarding Opoku, his stay with the Colts was short-lived, as he was signed nearly a week ago. The 6’4″, 225 pound wideout spent time with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2015 before joining the Colts. He appeared in last weekend’s preseason game, assisting on one tackle prior to his release Monday.
