The Indianapolis Colts are also resting key veterans Frank Gore and Robert Mathis along with Andrew Luck during tonight’s preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Other players not in uniform include DE Henry Anderson, CB Jalil Brown, S Clayton Geathers, S Winston Guy, DL Art Jones, DE Kendall Langford, WR Marcus Leak, CB D’Joun Smith, CB Tevin Mitchel, and OG Hugh Thornton.

It makes sense that the Colts wouldn’t dress either Gore or Mathis for tonight’s game because neither veteran has anything to prove at this level and would be better served saving their legs for the regular season when the games actually count.

Preseason is a great opportunity for younger players and unknowns to make the team’s final 53-man roster by showcasing their talents and ability to the coaches and front office.

However, veteran players like Gore and Mathis are pretty much a known commodity, and the Colts know what they can do and would rather save whatever gas they have left for the regular season.
