Colts ‘Two-Deep’ Depth Chart
Quarterback: Andrew Luck, Scott Tolzien
After inking the richest deal in NFL history, Andrew Luck is once again back behind center for the Colts again, having missed the team’s final 7 regular season games with a season-ending lacerated kidney this past season.
Battling injuries, Luck is coming off a down season for his normally high standards, as he threw for just 15 touchdowns to 12 interceptions and a career low passer rating of 74.9.
However, he remains the complete package when it comes to the modern day NFL quarterback prototype with his superior arm, athleticism, quickness, and overall football I.Q.
Despite last season’s struggles, Luck is just one season removed from throwing for a league-leading 40 touchdown passes, finishing 3rd in passing yards with 4,761 total passing yards, and carrying the Colts to the AFC Championship Game.
With backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck retiring, the Colts will now have backup quarterback Scott Tolzien carrying the clipboard for Luck, who was signed to a 2-year deal earlier this offseason.
Tolzien is said to be a “student of the game” himself, as the 6-year veteran has backed up another NFL superstar quarterback, the Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers, for the past 3 seasons. Therefore, it should be a familiar role for Tolzien in Indianapolis behind Luck, and one that’s suited him well previously.
