Right Inside Linebacker: Nate Irving, Sio Moore

The Colts will turn to either Nate Irving or Sio Moore to replace departed starter Jerrell Freeman, who was lost to the Chicago Bears in free agency.

Right now, it looks like the 28 year old Irving may be the early favorite, as the team signed him to a 3-year, $7.25M contract an offseason ago with high expectations for the former Denver Broncos starting inside linebacker.

While Irving has always been highly regarded for his run-stopping ability and has shed weight this offseason to improve his pass coverage, his durability remains a bit of a concern. Specifically, the 6-year veteran has suffered two season-ending injuries in consecutive seasons.

Meanwhile, Moore remains a bit of a wildcard for the Colts. The 26 year old inside linebacker was acquired by the Oakland Raiders in a trade last offseason, but only saw the field in limited action–recording 13 tackles in 12 games. He offers some pass rushing prowess as well and may be the Colts best pure athlete at the position.
