Colts ‘Two-Deep’ Depth Chart
Left Inside Linebacker: D’Qwell Jackson, Antonio Morrison
32 year old D’Qwell Jackson should once again be one of the starting inside linebackers for the Colts defense, having made all 32 starts during the team’s last two seasons.
Jackson has a knack for finding the football and remains a tackling machine for the Colts, finishing 2nd in the entire NFL last season with 150 total tackles. However, the 11-year veteran can be a bit of a liability in coverage over the middle, and the Colts may choose to use him more situationally this upcoming season.
Behind him is rookie 4th round pick Antonio Morrison out of Florida, who likely is projected to be Jackson’s long-term successor at the position. Like Jackson, Morrison is a very instinctive inside linebacker, who always seemed to have his helmet right around the football as the fiery leader of the Gators’ vaunted defense. However, he’ll have the opportunity to be groomed behind Jackson for a season before eventually assuming the starting position.
