Left Outside Linebacker: Erik Walden, Trevor Bates

30 year old Erik Walden remains a serviceable starter for the Colts at outside linebacker, where’s he’s primarily valued for his run stopping ability–particularly his ability to “set the edge”.

However, the 9-year veteran also offers some pass rush as a luxury, having had 12 sacks for the Colts during his 3-year tenure with the team.

Walden’s only missed 4 starts for the Colts over the past 3 seasons and should once again be the starter at outside linebacker for the opener.

Behind him could be rookie 7th round pick Trevor Bates, who’s a project pass rusher for the Colts lower on the depth chart. The 6’2″, 245 pound former Maine standout led the Black Bears with 7.5 sacks last season and finished with 19 career collegiate sacks. He could see reps as a situational pass rusher and should contribute immediately on special teams.
