Colts ‘Two-Deep’ Depth Chart
Defensive Tackle: Hassan Ridgeway,
*Art Jones
Colts fans were hoping that Art Jones would return as the starter–only fully healthy this time around, having been rehabilitating from a season-ending ankle injury suffered in last year’s preseason.
However, to add more insult–in this case embarrassment to injury, Jones was recently handed a 4-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing substances, which will effectively take place to start the upcoming season.
Instead, promising 4th round rookie defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway from Texas will likely have to take over the starting duties. The 6’3″, 303 pound defensive tackle really pushed the pocket with the Longhorns and can hopefully generate some much needed interior pass rush.
Specifically, the junior defensive tackle recorded 45 tackles including 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 11 games–receiving all Big-12 Honorable Mention this past season.
However, Ridgeway comes with his own durability issues, as well as weight concerns–meaning the Colts may have to put up with some growing pains from the young defensive tackle.
In Jones’ absence, look for 2nd-year defensive lineman T.Y. McGill, who the Colts claimed off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks right before the beginning of last season, to assume a larger role.
The 6’0″, 299 pound defensive lineman is a quick, penetrating defensive lineman, who should be a rotational player and provide additional young depth for the Colts in the trenches.
