The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that the team has signed tight end/H-back Emil Igwenagu and waived quarterback Josh Woodrum in a corresponding move.
It’s worth noting that Igwenagu previously tried out for the Colts during their mini-camp a month ago, as the team took advantage of a rule that allowed them to bring in additional players on a tryout basis.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, Igwenagu spent time on their practice squad and appeared in 3 games as a rookie. He was with the Eagles organization for two seasons before his subsequent release.
Afterward, Igwenagu then spent time on the Detroit Lions practice squad in 2014 and was part of their final 53-man roster cuts before last season.
While it’s admittedly a bit dated, here’s the 6’1″, 249 pound H-back’s draft profile:
"“Igwenagu is an intriguing prospect who never really found a consistent position at UMass, but contributed as a tight end and could play the role of a hybrid H-back type player in the NFL. He can run well for his size and is crafty in getting open, catching the ball, and moving up the field. He isn’t a deep threat and gets his production in close, mostly on short first downs. He could be a late-round flier for a team looking to use him on short passing downs.”"
Meanwhile, Woodrum was originally claimed off waivers from the New York Giants, having been initially signed by the “G-men” as an undrafted rookie free agent.
The 6’3″, 231 pound quarterback is Liberty’s all-time career passing leader in passing yards (10,266) and total offensive yards (10,690). He also ranks 2nd in career passing touchdowns (59) and career passing completion (63.9) with the Flames.
However, he’ll likely have to catch on elsewhere if he wants to continue his professional career in the NFL.
