The Indianapolis Colts agreed to a 2-year, $6 million contract extension with longtime kicker Adam Vinatieri:

It comes as no surprise, as the two sides have been working on a new deal since a week ago. Having made $2.55M last season, Vinatieri is set to receive a small annual pay raise.

The 43 year old Vinatieri remains one of the NFL’s best kickers, as he converted 25 of 27 field goal attempts (92.6%) last season–including a long of 55 yards, as well as 32 of his 35 extra point attempts (91.4%).

While many NFL teams have struggled finding stability at the kicking position–especially with the new PAT changes, the Colts have been fortunate to have one of the game’s greatest kickers.

As a 4x Super Bowl Champion, 3x First-Team All-Pro, and 3x Pro Bowler, Vinatieri has little else to actually accomplish on his football resume. One that includes a number of Super Bowl game-winning kicks.

However, the NFL’s all-time most clutch kicker has said that he would like to eventually become the NFL’s all-time career points leader:

"“Now it’s about I kind of want to catch Mort and Gary,” Vinatieri said about continuing his playing career earlier this offseason. “They’re way out in front of me. It’ll take me a long time. We’ll see how it goes. I say that with all due respect for those two guys.”"

Currently, Vinatieri is 3rd at 2,253 points for most career points all-time and still trails his two legendary kicking counterparts: Morten Andersen (2,544) and Gary Anderson (2,434) for the most career points all-time.

However, winning another Super Bowl with the Colts and earning the accompanying ring would give Vinatieri enough rings to cover his whole hand:

"“I’ve always said I want to win another Super Bowl,” concluded Vinatieri. “There are no guarantees. We’ll see where it goes.”"
