Running Back

Frank Gore may have expressed his displeasure with last season, but by all accounts he will still be in a Colts uniform in 2016. He’ll likely be backed up by Dan Herron as well, but the Colts could look for another player to fight for the backup spot or just as extra insurance.

Matt Forte would be the obvious pick here, but he’s going to be far too expensive and is due for a down year after eight seasons of heavy usage in Chicago. Forte would be an ideal fit as the Colts desperately need a running back who can catch and run.

Who do the Colts look at?

Bilal Powell, RB, New York Jets

Powell’s touches were limited in New York but he made the most of them. Powell averaged six yards per touch and made the most of them. He’s been buried on the depth chart for years, and might want to go somewhere he can get a more prominent role, but he would be a very good fit for the Colts.

This position isn’t one that is seen as critical, but having a reliable run game helps take the pressure off Luck. One, more rushing attempts would limit the number of drop backs Luck as to take and two it would mean the offense isn’t completely reliant on Luck’s brilliance and heroics.
