Dwayne Allen

Should he be re-signed: Yes.

The issue with Allen is whether or not he wants to return to Indy. The Colts badly misused him last season, seeming to completely forget just how dynamic a player he can be. Allen made it clear he felt that Indianapolis was his home and wanted to stay here, but was also unhappy with his role last season. With two tight ends headed to free agency, the Colts are going to have to re-sign at least one.

Allen is clearly the more talented player, but he’s also injury prone (six missed games the past two seasons). His blocking abilities make him a complete tight end and he is a menace with the ball in his hands. At $1.7 million, he was a hell of a bargain last year (if underutilized) and is certain to command much more money this season.

PFF has Allen number two on their free agent tight ends list. This is mainly based on his 2014 and rookie seasons, since he was out all of 2013 and 2015 was basically a wash. Allen feels like the kind of player who could leave the Colts for a nice contract and immediately have a Pro Bowl-caliber season.
