Jerrell Freeman

Should he be re-signed: Absolutely.

Freeman is overdue for a long term contract. He made just $2.3 million last season and vastly outperformed that one-year tender. Freeman’s overall stats were good, but the regular season finale really stood out when he had two sacks and an interception return for a touchdown. It was very much a “pay me” game.

There is still lingering issues about his health, specifically his hamstrings, which cost him three games this season and four the season before.

Pro Football Focus has Freeman fifth on their highest-graded free agents list. The Colts have a severe lack of options at the middle linebacker position. D’Qwell Jackson isn’t getting any younger and he’s a terrible third down linebacker. The Colts probably should have offered a longer term deal last year as it would have been cheaper. Now they need Freeman back and it will cost them even more.
