The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday that the team has claimed safety Akeem Davis off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

Originally an undrafted free agent out of Memphis in 2013, Davis has also spent time with the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers organizations.

Davis appeared in 3 games this season–2 games with the Saints and most recently 1 game with the Seahawks, recording 2 total tackles.

The 6’1, 200 pound safety will likely be able to contribute immediately on special teams, where the Colts coverage units have struggled in recent games.

The team has allowed a punt return for a touchdown in consecutive weeks, so upgrading their special teams has become a necessity.

The team had an open roster spot on their 53-man active roster, so no one had to be waived in a corresponding move in order to add Davis.
