Earl Morrall (1968-71)

Morrall was brought in to backup Unitas late in the future Hall of Famers career. In his first season with the Colts, Morrall would lead the Colts to a 13-1 record after Unitas was injured in the final exhibition game prior to the regular season. Morall would go on to win the MVP in 1968.

Morrall started in Super Bowl III against the Joe Namath and the Jets, but threw three interceptions before being benched for Unitas. Morrall would redeem himself in Super Bowl V, replacing an injured Unitas and leading the team to victory.

Morrall might be one of the most valuable backup quarterbacks in history (next to Tom Brady). Filling in for a legend, leading the team to the best record in the league and a Super Bowl berth. Then following it up a few years later with a game winning drive in another Super Bowl.
