Colts Re-Sign Rookie RB Josh Robinson to Practice Squad

The Indianapolis Colts re-signed running back Josh Robinson on Friday, only this time to their practice squad. The rookie rusher cleared waivers and the team was able to successfully keep him within the organization.

Released on Thursday to promote outside linebacker Daniel Adongo to the active roster, the 5’8″, 221 pound Robinson took up the final vacant spot on the team’s practice squad Friday.

There’s no doubt that Robinson has struggled so far this season, particularly with ball security–having fumbled a number of times already in limited action:

However, the Colts clearly still believe that Robinson has flashed another promise to warrant keeping around, even if it’s on the practice squad. Having rushed for 39 total rushing yards on 17 carries for a subpar 2.3 yards per carry average, Robinson didn’t show much production as a backup running back earlier this season.

Still, the rookie “bowling ball” impressed in training camp, and it could just be a learning curve that Robinson will have to adjust to in order to make an impact at the NFL level.

Robinson began the season as starter Frank Gore‘s primary backup. However, after inexplicably putting the football on the turf a number of times, the team eventually turned to fellow backup running back Zurlon Tipton before signing veteran running back Ahmad Bradshaw all together to solidify the position.

Once Bradshaw was brought back, Robinson was relegated to being a healthy scratch in the team’s last 3 games, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise that he was a recent roster release.

That being said, the Colts are still confident enough in Robinson’s potential that they’re willing to stash him on the team’s practice squad. This year’s 6th round pick may have hit a rookie wall, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be knocked out for good.
