New England Patriots (4-0)

Efficiency through Week 4: 1st in Offense, 16th in Defense

I’m tempted to just skip over this one and pretend it doesn’t exist. We like to say that anything can happen on the field, but sadly there can be but one outcome when the Colts host the Patriots this weekend. We’ll have plenty more on the Pats this week as we prep for the game, but here a few quick hits.

First, their schedule has been incredibly soft. The barely beat a Steelers team in the season opener without Le’Veon Bell and against a Pittsburgh team that doesn’t exactly have a defense.

In Week 2, they nearly let a big lead slip away against the Bills. Buffalo completely lost their composure early in the game and by the time they rallied, it was too late. In Week 3, they beat the Jaguars, enough said.

This past week, the Pats dominated the Cowboys. The same Cowboys that are currently without Tony Romo and Dez Bryant. The fact of the matter is that Brandon Weeden is not a good quarterback, and it would have been more surprising if the Patriots had lost (or merely struggled).

This isn’t to say the Pats are bad, they’re incredibly talented, but just that the media gushing doesn’t take into account the cupcake schedule so far or the stat padding the Pats like to do (seriously, up 51-10 on the Jags and Tom Brady is still in throwing passes in the fourth).
