The Indianapolis Colts made a few housekeeping moves today. After waiving injured running back Vick Ballard from the roster, the Colts promoted inside linebacker Josh McNary to fill Ballard’s spot on the active-53.
McNary was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List back in January following a rape charge levied against him. McNary was found not guilty on all charges and the Colts signed him back to the team’s practice squad following a workout in early September.
McNary appeared in 10 games last season, starting in three while Jerrell Freeman was out with a hamstring injury early in the season. McNary was serviceable as a backup for the Colts last season, but often had more bad games than good ones.
He graduated from Army and did two years of service before signing with the Colts as a free agent in 2013.
The move keeps the Colts at at 53 players, despite reports of the team working out defensive lineman Devon Still. Don’t expect to see much of McNary unless it is on special teams or someone else has been injured.
