Analysis: Bennett was one of longtime NFL Analyst Gil Brandt’s top undrafted free agents. While Andrew Luck and Matt Hasselbeck have #1 and #2 locked up on the quarterback pecking order respectively, Bennett should get a fair shot to show what he can do, as the Colts will need another training camp arm at the very least.

Leading the Lions, Bennett completed 143 of 289 passes (49.5%) for 2,357 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions last season. He played his 1st two seasons at Oregon before transferring to SE Louisiana because a certain quarterback named Marcus Mariota was taking all the reps with the Ducks.

With Hasselbeck set to turn 40 years old in September, the Colts could use a long-term backup to Luck in a few seasons. As such, if he performs well, Bennett could be a developmental practice squad stash to hopefully become the “down-the-road” backup to #12.

Via his NFL.com Draft Profile:

"BOTTOM LINE Plays the game with too much arm and not enough eyes at this stage. Doesn’t appear to have the awareness or football intelligence teams typically look for in quarterbacks and his accuracy and decision making can be big issues at times. Bennett has an easy release with adequate arm talent and above-average athleticism. There are enough tools in his shed to end up as a project on a team’s practice squad or a potential No. 3 quarterback."
