Colts Draft: Review, Grades and In-Depth Analysis
By Dave McKee
Round 5 Pick #15 – 151st Overall:
Analysis: Grigson and Pagano stuck to their word and let their big board dominate their draft. While some controversy over who should have been selected on Day 1 ensued, mark my words, by the end of the season those same naysayers will be glad the Colts stuck to their board and chose Dorsett.
There is no complaint from anyone regarding the Day 2 selections of Smith and Anderson, whose additions to the defense could be immediate and provide an injection of youth on a defense that is starting to crest 30 at an average age of 29.6 years (to be exact). There were some potential gems on Day 3 with the selections of Parry and Robinson.
Measurables: The Colts consistently drafted top performers and freakish athletes. Every indication is that they not only want to play faster, but with much more physicality and a bit of a nasty streak on the defensive side of the ball. Perhaps this is the year that “Building The Monster” starts reaping greater dividends.
Scheme Fit: The Colts did not deviate from scheme unless we want to rehash Dorsett, which I do not. I have grown into a bigger and bigger fan of that selection the more I hear and read. They drafted every need and added much interior rush potential in this draft. The sky is the limit for this season as the Colts just closed the gap on the Patriots for Superbowl contention.
