Frank Gore Back in Play for the Colts
By Evan Reller
The Indianapolis Colts might now be front runners to sign former 49ers running back Frank Gore.
Despite reports that the Philadelphia Eagles would sign Gore once free agency officially begins, new reports indicate that the Colts are still a contender.
New reports indicate that the Colts are still a possible landing spot for Gore.
Rapoport’s report was backed up shortly after by one from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gore has connections to two of the Colts coaches from his college days at Miami University. Head coach Chuck Pagano was the defensive backs coach and Rob Chudzinski was the offensive coordinator.
There is nothing that indicates why Gore might be backing out of his tentative deal with the Eagles. Reports said that Philadelphia offered Gore was for three years and worth $5 million per year, with $7.5 million guaranteed over the first two years.
It looks like GM Ryan Grigson has found his patience during this free agency period. While we don’t know what the Colts are offering Gore, it looks like Grigson was willing to let him walk rather than overpay for his services.
More information indicated that Gore is in the process of getting in touch with Colts players to learn more about the team.
One interesting factor is that Gore and recently released wide receiver Andre Johnson have know each other since high school and both went to The U. The Colts have been linked to Johnson, especially since they announced they wouldn’t bring back Reggie Wayne.
Free agency doesn’t start until tomorrow, we’ll know more by the end of Tuesday.
