According to multiple reports, former Indianapolis Colts safety LaRon Landry has been suspended 10 games for next season because of performance-enhancing drugs. Landry was released by the Colts earlier this offseason in a move that saved the team a little over $2 million in cap space going forward.

The 30 year old safety was given a 4-game suspension last season because of PED’s, and it looks like he apparently didn’t learn his lesson. Known for being a hard-hitting safety, Landry was never the “in-the-box enforcer” that the Colts initially envisioned when they signed him to such a lucrative long-term contract in the 2013 offseason.

Just looking at Landry and his seemingly unnatural physical physique, it really comes as no surprise that he may be doing some additional off-the-field extracurriculars. Unfortunately for the Colts, his bulging biceps never translated to the field. In addition to his lackluster tackling, Landry frequently took poor angles to the football and was often a mismatch in coverage.

What was already going to be a cold market for Landry just got icy. His season is essentially over before it started, and it will be interesting if a team is going to be willing to take another shot on him given the consecutive PED offenses, that he’s 30 years old, and coming off a season in which he put up some pretty bad film on tape.

However, thankfully the Colts were proactive regarding Landry, and made the prudent football decision by releasing him. While signing him was clearly a mistake, there was no sense keeping an overpaid safety, who simply wasn’t very good on the football field.

For Landry, it could spell the end of his 9-year NFL career. The former 6th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft was a Pro Bowler with the New York Jets in 2012, but is clearly not the same type of player he once was.
