Colts Extend Long Snapper Matt Overton

The Indianapolis Colts announced tonight that they have agreed to a contract extension with long snapper Matt Overton. The 4-year pro has spent the last 3 seasons with the Colts and is one of the best players at his position. Exact terms of his new contract have not yet been released, but it looks as though it’s for 4 additional years based on Overton’s recent tweet:

Undrafted out of Western Washington in 2007, Overton has seemingly found a long-term home in Indianapolis. While his position is often unheralded, he’s very skilled at his craft. It’s worth noting that Overton was a Pro Bowler with the Colts in 2013 and is perhaps, one of the more unsung heroes of the Colts special teams units these days.

If nothing else, he’s Pat McAfee’s better half.

Either way, it’s great to see Overton in a Colts uniform for the foreseeable future, as he’s a true “Horseshoe Guy“. A player that truly embodies what’s great about the game both on and off the field and represents the Colts organization very well. He’s been involved with several charitable causes in the past year, and both Pat McAfee and Adam Vinatieri enjoyed All-Pro seasons this past year with him snapping the football.

There was no sense for the Colts to mess up continuity with their special teams units, when having Overton as the long snapper has worked out so well. The fact that Overton is such a special person off the field only made it an even easier decision.

Some of his Colts teammates were clearly excited about his new extension:
