Promote In-House Candidates:

The Colts have a possible in-house candidate in soon-to-be 3rd-year pro Montori Hughes. The former 5th round pick of the Colts in 2013 has flashed potential at a massive 6’4″, 350 pounds, but hasn’t quite put it all together. Still, Hughes provided valuable depth for the Colts last season, appearing in 12 games (1 start) and recording 12 tackles.

Otherwise, Zach Kerr showed some potential as an undrafted rookie defensive lineman last season. Coming out of the University of Delaware, the former Blue Hen showed some initial promise before being declared inactive during the last few games of the Colts season.

Kerr recorded 3 sacks on the season and has the tools to be at least a dependable rotational defensive lineman for the Colts going forward; however, he has to be much more disciplined and consistent in his play. At a listed 6’2″, 335 pounds, like the aforementioned Hughes, he certainly has more than enough size to effectively play the 3-4 defensive end position however.
