According to Spotrac.com, one of the premier salary cap resources on the web, the Indianapolis Colts now have reportedly $37.8M in cap space following the recent release of veteran pass rusher Shaun Phillips:
That number could still potentially increase, as the team has to be seriously considering the release of both one of our potential cap casualties in veteran offensive guard Donald Thomas ($3.75M cap hit) and disappointing young running back Trent Richardson ($3.18M cap hit).
Even with Andrew Luck‘s massive mega-contract extension looming, the Colts still figure to be able to add at least a high profile free agent piece or two. Among the top potential top free agent candidates we’ve covered are:
- Larry Fitzgerald, Wide Receiver
- Frank Gore, Running Back
- Rodney Hudson, Center
- Mike Iupati, Offensive Guard
- Devin McCourty, Safety
- Haloti Ngata, Defensive Tackle
- Jason Pierre-Paul, Defensive End
- Ndamukong Suh, Defensive Tackle
- Dan Williams, Nose Tackle
It should be an interesting offseason for the Colts, as they could be big players in this year’s free agent market. The team has a number of holes to address too on both sides of the football. While the upcoming NFL Draft will no doubt help solve some of their deficiencies, the Colts could look to sign proven impact players through free agency, where there figures to be a good number available.
