According to Wish-TV 8 in Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Colts Ahmad Bradshaw was cited last Thursday for marijuana possession along I-70 in Ohio:

"“According to Preble County court records, Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw was cited for marijuana possession and following too close.Troopers stopped Bradshaw last Thursday on the westbound side of I-70.His passenger was arrested and charged with two counts of drug possession.Their next date in court is Feb. 17.”"

It marks just the latest case in what has been a disturbing series of off-the-field incidents regarding Indianapolis Colts players. First, back-up inside linebacker Josh McNary was charged with rape in January. Then, recently released back-up inside linebacker Andrew Jackson was charged with a DUI in Kentucky just a few weeks later. With the latest prior incident before today’s news being D’Qwell Jackson’s arrest for simple assault just last week in Washington, D.C.

The 28-year old Bradshaw is a soon-to-be free agent, after rushing for 425 rushing yards on 90 carries and 2 touchdowns before suffering a season-ending broken ankle in Week 11. While it looked as though he may be a serious candidate to bring back even given his brittle durability, this will certainly cloud his future after playing on a 1-year, $855K salary last season.

However, Bradshaw was highly productive when healthy as a member of the Colts last season. He was the team’s most effective running back with his exceptional pass blocking and receiving ability. It’s worth noting that Bradshaw actually had 6 receiving touchdowns on the season, which was a career-high.

What was once a “Colts conundrum” of whether to bring Bradshaw back has now turned into even more of a dilemma. The 8-year veteran is expected to be one of the veteran leaders of this football team. However, his citation for marijuana possession shows a serious lack of judgment.

The Colts have to be awfully worried now about what else their players are going to do this offseason, as it’s obvious that a good few have way too much time on their hands. It’s enough time to get themselves into trouble after following such a regimented schedule during this year’s football season.
