One of the best cornerbacks in the league had high praise for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck on Thursday. The New England Patriots Darrelle Revis (i.e. “Revis Island”) said the Colts young star reminds him a lot of the latter’s Hall of Fame predecessor in Peyton Manning:
"“He’s very talented,” the All-Pro cornerback said Thursday in the Patriots’ locker room. “He’s a rising young star, and he’s unbelievable what he does, man. The passes he throws, the way he runs the offense kinda looks like Peyton Manning all over again. He’s great. You just gotta give him his credit. He’s worked hard, he’s brought them this far, and it’s the matchup we got. We’re looking forward to it.”"
It’s high praise indeed, coming from one of the best cover cornerbacks in NFL history. At age 29, Revis is a 6x Pro Bowler and 4x First-Team All-Pro, so he’s seen his fair share of great players. Let’s hope he’s talking about “vintage” Peyton Manning though and not the not quite right version that the Colts saw in last weekend’s game.
"“The Colts have a great offense. I mean, Luck is probably one of the best quarterbacks in the game. He is a young stud,” Wilfork said."
However, such acts of kindness are nothing new to the Patriots. In fact, it’s part of their weekly gamesmanship where they praise opponents beforehand only to pummel them between the sidelines on Sundays. The Colts have been down this road before and know not to pat themselves on the back too much, but rather take it in stride.
Still, it does signify that Luck is well-respected among league circles, and it’s not just Colts’ fans that are gushing about his exceptional play this season.
As mentioned before though, Luck doesn’t seem like the type to get a big head, rather just a big beard.
