The Indianapolis Colts closed out training camp today. From now on, they’ll be practicing on the west side of Indy at their complex on 56th street.

After today’s practice, we learned what to expect from Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Giants.

For one, we’ll see extended play from the starters, specifically Andrew Luck. Coach Chuck Pagano said that fans can expect to see Luck play for “about a quarter.”

Significantly more time than the one series we saw last week.

Pagano also said that safety LaRon Landry and cornerback Vontae Davis will play, but it doesn’t sound like they’ll be on the field very long.

“It looks like (Davis) and LaRon are going to get some playing time on Saturday, which is a great thing,” Pagano said. “How many reps that is, I don’t know.”

A number of players were held out of the final practice and their status for Saturday remains unknown.

T.Y. Hilton was held out for the past two days for precautionary reasons. Davis had a boot on his left foot, also precautionary, but Pagano still insisted he’d play Saturday.

Rookie Jack Mewhort was held out the past few days and Pagano said earlier in the week he hoped he’d be back on the field by Wednesday, but that wasn’t the case. With Khaled Holmes out for an unknown amount of time, and Mewhort now a question mark, the offensive line is going to suffer greatly from a lack of continuity.

Safety Delano Howell continued to sit with a sore neck. This is especially concerning since a neck injury sent him to IR last season. We also have no idea what the safety position is going to look like going into the season.

Linebacker Jerrell Freeman was also held out of practice today.

Pagano broke into a press conference with Reggie Wayne yesterday, and the results were quite amusing.

He opened by asking Wayne if he has forgotten how to play football. Wayne replied by saying that you can’t forget how to play a game when you’ve been doing it since you were seven years old.

A reporter then asked if Wayne could take Pagano in the octagon.

“You know,” Wayne said. “As much as you’d want to go in there and just choke him out, just make him tap out, I would probably get him pretty good. I was going to hold back.”

“Make me tap out?” Pagano replied. “Oh, good luck. He’s a football player, he ain’t a WWE wrestler. He’s watching too much TV.”

Coach insisted that he could hold his own against anybody at camp.

“I may not win,” Pagano said. “But I’m going down swinging.”

Pagano was especially optimistic as camp came to a close.

“Offense, defense and special teams, individually, I think we’ve seen everybody make strides,” he said. “We’ve seen everybody get better. I think as long as we stay on track and avoid the injury bug. … I think this team has the potential to do some great things this year.”
