Indianapolis Colts Release WR – LaVon Brazill

The career of WR – LaVon Brazill, as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, has officially gone up in smoke.

The Colts have released the beleaguered wide receiver, following a NFL suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Brazill was recently suspended for at least the 2014 season, after repeated policy violations. Brazill was also suspended for the first four games of last season, and will not return to the Colts, even after his suspension is over.

Brazill was already on thin ice, following the 2013 suspension. Indianapolis really had little room to put up with a player who is going to see the field so rarely, and really hasn’t impressed much when he was given the opportunity. The Colts are also very loaded at the receiver position this season, so there was already concern that Brazill would be cut by the team anyway eventually.

The larger issue at hand may be the fact that Brazill’s chronic problems are so chronic. Marijuana legalization may be spreading across the country, but the herb usage is still frowned upon in the NFL. For a young man to throw away such a golden opportunity over something so small, if definitely a problematic concern. Perhaps Brazill will get another chance at the NFL once his suspension is lifted, but perhaps not.
