Which Players May Be Next in the Ring of Honor for the Indianapolis Colts?

The Indianapolis Colts’ Ring of Honor has been making additions almost annually, since 1996. Dating back to the days of the RCA Dome, former owner Robert Irsay, was the initial inductee. There have been no announcements for any Ring of Honor inductees this season, but there are plenty of former Colts who could soon make the cut.

With the recent retirement of former tight end Dallas Clark as a member of the Colts, questions were raised as to whether or not he would soon be added to the ring of honor. There is a long line of players from Clark’s time with the Colts that could one day end up in the rafters at Lucas Oil Stadium. Some of those players have been traded away from the team, but some others like Clark have recently retired. The most recent inductees were former Colts’ running backs, Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk, who both had more productive careers elsewhere. If those part-time players can reach the Ring of Honor, then the door could be wide open for many others.

Former starting center, Jeff Saturday recently retired, and could very well be the next name added to the list. Clark’s name is also high on the list, but he may have to take a back seat, depending on when K – Adam Vinatieri decides to call it a career. Both RB – Edgerrin James and WR – Marvin Harrison have their names inducted, and its only a matter of time until the third member of “the triplets” if offered the honor. Other names like DE – Dwight Freeney, LB – Gary Brackett, S – Antoine Bethea, WR – Reggie Wayne, and OT – Tarik Glenn will also be brought up in the conversation.

There is a good crop of former Colts who could find themselves in the Ring of Honor some day soon, and a possibility for several more on the current roster.
