Did the Indianapolis Colts Miss Out On WR – DeSean Jackson?

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports
The Indianapolis Colts may have had a shot at WR – DeSean Jackson. Jackson was recently released by the Philadelphia Eagles, which leaves him as arguably the most sought-after receiver in NFL free agency. Even though the hammer did not finally come down until nearly April, there were rumblings around the league that Jackson and the Eagles were not on the same page.
After the Eagles were eliminated from the playoffs, Jackson as quick to announce his intents on getting a better deal. Jackson still had a solid situation in his contract with the Eagles, but didn’t seem to have the proper attitude for what the team was trying to do. There were also rumors about Jackson’s possible involvement in gang activity, which reportedly helped for the decision to let the receiver go.
The Indianapolis Colts may have jumped the gun, by signing WR – Hakeem Nicks, instead of taking a stab at Jackson. The word on the street was that Jackson may have been on the market for a while, and Indianapolis GM – Ryan Grigson is familiar with the wideout, from his time with the Eagles. The Colts don’t have much to offer in a trade, but could have possibly put out feelers, to see if they may have snagged one of the best receivers in the NFL.
The truth is, that the Colts don’t really need Jackson. Jackson and WR – T.Y. Hilton are very similar players. Indianapolis got Nicks for a buy-low price, and would have had to basically mortgage part of their future for the former Eagle. Still, some team could soon find themselves hitting the jackpot with DeSean Jackson.
