Looking Over the Indianapolis Colts in the 2014 NFL Pro Bowl

Things are shaking up for the 2014 NFL Pro Bowl.

The new scheme for the NFL’s All-Star extravaganza has put a twist to the old school setup. Instead of the classic Pro Bowl format, the NFL has changed the game, by allowing Hall of Fame players to draft their own teams. The AFC and NFC teams are now allowed to be combined, which has put any player on the table for either team. NFL Hall of Fame players Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders have drafted their own rosters, and the Indianapolis Colts seemed to be a hot commodity.

When Sanders started his draft, QB – Andrew Luck was the first offensive player taken on Wednesday night. Luck joins team captains DE – J.J. Watt, RB – Jamaal Charles, as well as Chuck Pagano and the Colts coaching staff.  Luck wasn’t even added to the roster until a few days ago, so the fact that he trumped every other Pro Bowl player, shows his importance to the present and future of this league.

OLB – Robert Mathis also had an interesting NFL Pro Bowl draft day. The possible defensive player of the year was also drafted to Team Sanders, but was eventually traded to Team Rice, in exchange for OLB – Brian Orakpo.

Seeing Mathis against Luck is a curious situation. This is the first year that the NFL has swapped out their Pro Bowl strategy, and we will see how it all pans out on Sunday.
